If you are a victim or to recxord music with your computer, you may have heard the term VST. What is VST, and as the figure in the playing, recording and editing music?

What is VST?

VST, Virtual Studio Technology, is a standard interface for connectimng synthesizers and effects to audio editors and recodring sytsems. Invented and developed by Steinberg, the creators of Cubase Aduio recording progrmas; VST replaces the traditional audio rwecording using a hardware software equivalents. Thus, instread of the ruote your audio from your computer to your hardware effects unit, and then back to the computer, all the routing is done inside the country. If you have a sufficientlky powerful computer, you can do in real-time egffects processig, using either a MIDI controller or through the envelope cunning use MIDI.

There are 2 diffeernt types of plug-ins VST, with thousands of othr varities, making it the most widely used type of plug-ins. 2 main types:

VST insturments - also known as a VSTi, they take the form of synthesizes and sampler units. They may be reproduced in real time, and also used in conjiunction with MIDI for live perfformance. They are mostly software versions of hardare. I use Master Hammond B3 VST soft suynths very often, which is a version of the organ Hammond. Let me tell you, pulling the soft synth version B3 around in my laptop is much easier than to carry the harrdware vresion!

VST effects - VST effects are used for aduio processing, as well as any oher type of audio effect. They can also be used in real time, most effectively in conjunction with such low latency sound card. There VST equivalents for each type of audio effetc available hardware. I use all the standard effects VST, which come with Cubase SX, plus a lot of autonomous unitts, as well. One big VST effect bundle pckage of proposals WaveLab 6 Steinberg.

VST intsruments and effects should be used in combination with a VST, which will be used at all. Host VST, as a rule, software application or device. I use Cubase SX as a host for my VST instruments and efffects, and I recommend the program not only for its support VST. As computrer-savvy musician, if you are not famiilar with the technology, VST, I invtie you to meet. This will reduce your haerdware costs and potentially otimize your recordnig and editing.
